Thyroid ultrasound imaging is also an additional service provided at Diabetes & Endocrinology Specialists, Inc.  Also called ultrasound scanning or sonography, the process is a non-invasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions of the thyroid, such cysts, goiters, and tumors.  The ultrasound produces a picture of the thyroid gland by exposing the neck to high-frequency sound waves to produce pictures.

Because ultrasound images are captured in real-time, they can show the structure and movement of the body’s internal organs, as well as blood flowing through blood vessels, providing your physician with opportunity for early detection of various thyroid conditions.

NOTE: Ultrasound exams do not use ionizing radiation (as used in x-rays), so there will be no effect on living tissue.
